Welcome to NiSHE - the National Information Service for Higher Education
A project of Higher Education South Africa (HESA), NiSHE exists to provide quality information and guidance to anyone interested in studying at a university or a university of technology in South Africa.
The NiSHE website is for you if you are:
a learner at school, especially from Grade 9 upward - required to choose subjects for Grades 10-12 and possible future study at a university;
a school teacher - particularly in Life Orientation;
a parent;
a student or staff member at an FET college;and
any prospective higher education student.
School leavers and other prospective university students have many questions about higher education study. We attempt to answer them here.
We also provide brief information on each of South Africa's 23 higher education institutions. For more detailed information, please visit the individual institutional websites. Several links on this NiSHE site will take you there.
